Introducing Belle! The warm rays of September sun shone down on a team of compassionate animal rescuers in Johannesburg, South Africa when they first laid eyes on her. However, Belle’s condition was utterly distressing and heart-rending.
When you take a glance at her, you can’t help but notice the small pale bumps that have taken over her ears and eyes. However, don’t be fooled into thinking they are some sort of skin disease – they are actually ticks. These blood-sucking parasites have attached themselves to her and have made her their home. The ticks have concentrated around her ears and eyelids, where the skin is thin and there are plenty of blood vessels. Their constant feeding has drained Belle of so much blood that she is now anemic and struggles to walk. It’s truly heartbreaking to see her in such a vulnerable state.
It can be heart-wrenching to see these pictures, especially for dog lovers. However, they play a crucial role in exposing the harsh truth of what dogs like Belle go through when they are left behind. CLAW, the group responsible for rescuing Belle, had a challenging mission ahead of them. Due to the danger of severe blood loss, they could not remove all the ticks immediately. As a result, they opted to give her treatment and wait for the ticks to fall off naturally.
It was definitely tough to see Belle in pain, but the plan for treatment ultimately worked out. Thankfully, all of the ticks were removed and Belle slowly but surely began to recover.
Despite her scars, Belle seems unbothered as she exudes beauty and happiness as a young pup with a gorgeous coat. The places where ticks took away her hair are now regrowing, but more than that, she has found contentment. What’s even more heartwarming is that Belle has finally found a permanent home with an amazing caretaker named Hannah.
As mentioned on CLAW’s Facebook page, Hannah and Belle had an instant connection that led to a harmonious partnership. Belle has been thriving in her new home and is getting better day by day. It’s clear that Belle is very happy with her new life, wouldn’t you say?
CLAW’s dedicated team and Hannah’s kind-heartedness have made Belle’s story the epitome of a successful animal rescue. If you want to know about other dogs that require assistance in South Africa, you can check out CLAW’s Facebook page. Share this touching account with your loved ones too.
